Senior Independence Program (S.I.P)

Seniors at OSD are able to be involved in a new and exciting program called the Senior Independence Program S.I.P! It allows students to have more independence and prepare them for the “real world.”

Level A:

This category means the senior has met all of the requirements that have been set up for them by Youth Leaders with the approval from the Student Life Director. 

Level A Requirements:

  • Must have a 3.500-4.000 GPA 

  • No more than 2 “minor” write-ups and no more than 1 “major” write-up since August 2015

  • Must score an average of 4.0 out of 5.0 from interview with SIP committee

  • Submit 2 reference letters from any OSD staff member except Youth Leaders

  • Possess:

    • Knowledge of dorm/campus-wide safety procedures (lockdown, fire, strangers on campus, kitchen/cooking use and fitness center use), 

    • Outstanding self-advocacy skills,

    • Knowledge of basic self-care/first aid skills

Level A Expectations:

  • Work with Stephanie Albert, helping her plan her once a month activities (time worked will count as volunteer hours) 

  • Volunteer at least 2 hours a week

  • Able to get up on their own for school in the morning and wash their own clothing

  • Complete required dorm duties/chores by bedtime

  • Received no more than 1 “minor” write-up per quarter

Level A Privileges: 

  1. Students schedule their own homework in the dorm at any time 

  2. Keep cellphone with them- before and after school

  3. Students, 18 and older, with signed permission/waiver form, are able to go to the fitness center on their own (3:45-6:30 pm M-TH) 

  4. Students are able to go to town 5:00-9:00 pm M-TH,  students under 18 or those with guardianship, must get signed permission from parent(s)

  5. Students will have a badge to access Administration Building (3:45 pm-6:30 pm) and Student Health Services Building (3:45 pm – 9:00 pm)

  6. Lights out at Midnight

  7. Students are able to eat dinner in the café from 4:30-6:00 pm.

  8. Sign-In and Out of dorm independently

/out Expectations:

Students are to go directly to the dorm after school to sign-in prior to going anywhere.  If students forgots to sign in more than twice in a given week, they’ll be “suspended” from their level program for one week. If forgotten for the third time, “suspended” for two weeks. A fourth time will result in demotion to the B level or no level for four weeks. To be promoted back to the A or B level, student will need to go through a SIP interview. 

Behavior Data Sheet (Write-ups):

To stay on their level program without a “demotion”, student cannot have received more than 1 “minor” write-up and absolutely no “major” write-up per quarter. 

There is no guarantee that the student will re-enter the level program once they have been “suspended” from it for whatever reasons.
