ISLR was founded in the fall of 1998 in response to the passage of the teacher certification and licensure law in Ohio which required educational interpreters to have credentials and on-going professional development. ISLR was founded as joint venture between the Ohio School for the Deaf and the Office of Exceptional Children at the Ohio Department of Education.
