It is the intent and professional responsibility of the Ohio School for the Deaf (OSD) student Health Services (SHS) staff and cooperating local medical personnel to plan and administer the most efficient school health program possible within budget parameters and as defined within the rules of the Ohio Department of Education.

The two-fold rule of the OSD SHS may be defined as:

1. An organizational structure for a campus-wide health program emphasizing prevention of illness and injury through immunization programs, medical screenings and education;

2. A health care facility for the treatment of routine illness and injuries involving daily clinics, medications and limited in-patient activities.

Parental Responsibility

It should be noted that the continuous health care of our students is primarily a parental concern and responsibility.

The OSD SHS, at best, can only hope to augment that rare and assist parents in furthering the effectiveness of such care programs. Therefore, a number of health conditions (especially chronic illness) which may occur while a student is in attendance at OSD will be referred to parents and family physicians for evaluation and follow-up.

Extended Services

The OSD SHS utilizes the services of physicians, dental personnel, pharmacies, and local medical facilities for supportive health services.
