Parent Mentor
 
The Parent Mentor program at the Ohio School for the Deaf provides information and support to parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children across the state using any communication mode, including both visual and auditory methods. The goal of the Parent Mentor program is to use the invaluable experiences of parents of children with disabilities to help ease the way for parents new to special education.

Services

  • Act as a liaison between schools and parents
  • Refer parents to resources regarding special education and Deafness and services for children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing
  • Assist parents with the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan) process, including attending IEP and IFSP meetings upon request
  • Connect parents to other parents who have the shared experience of raising a Deaf or hard-of-hearing child

Assistance can be provided on-site or via phone, email or videoconference. Services are free.
